An Offer One Might Refuse

MANCHESTER, New Hampshire (GWW)— Every college student has heard of Facebook, and the site is the second most common use of the internet at Saint Anselm College -- but have you heard of Barackbook?

The site, complete with an application to add to your own Facebook profile, is a product of the Republican National Committee. Updated several times a week, this fake online network links Sen. Obama, D-Ill., to the buzz-names of this election: William Ayers, Tony Rezco, and even ACORN. Needless to say, the connotation of "friendship" on this site isn't a good one -- and its an offer, or a friend request, that you might refuse.

Almost daily, reporters wake up to an email from the RNC announcing new additions to Sen. Obama's "friends" list; two recent updates, from the RNC emails:

"The most recent friend update includes Barack Obama's notable association with his campaign manager, David Plouffe, who is known for his aggressive, questionable tactics in running Democrat campaigns."

"The most recent friend update includes Barack Obama's notable association with Michael Klonsky, a former chairman of the Communist Party of the United States and one-time head of Students for a Democratic Society. Klonsky is a close associate of unrepentant domestic terrorist Bill Ayers, with whom he collaborated with in The Small Schools Workshop at the University of Illinois, a recipient of over $1 million in grants from the Chicago Annenberg Challenge, a group for which Obama once served as chairman of its board."

The Illinois senator's status also changes frequently, although it it is hardly something he would type himself: "Barack is watching this video," about his connections to William Ayers. Here's a surprise -- the video was posted by the RNC.

Notably missing from the friend list: Joe the Plumber, who apparently has neither Barackbook nor a plumbing license.
